What a start to the New Year 2007. Lots of plans going on and everyone is gearing up for car shows, tours and events. Don Reese has cordially accepted the job of president for the fifth year. Don has done so much for this club it would take a book to write all of his accomplishments. Of course, we cannot overlook the backups – Bruce Willis and Jerry Bodden always stand in for Don in his absence. Elected are: Joe Millers, Vice President; Ronada Russell, Secretary; Bruce Willis, Treasurer; Bob Feldes, Chapter Newsletter; Pam Roach, Region Newsletter; Jerry Bodden & Bruce Willis, car show Chairman and Bill Roach, Chief Judge. Board of Directors – Don Reese, Chairman, John Burton, Claude Church, Rod Moore and Gerald Russell were reelected. The club has 80 members. There were 22 members present for January’s meeting. There were several new members welcomed – Scott & Linda Bryson, Steve Morgan and Michael Propst.

Don Reeves reported sadly that the Fort Bragg tour would be cancelled because of conflict in dates. Hopefully next year we will have another display.

Charlotte is the next big show and several of our members are looking forward to that annual event. We will have the fliers ready to distribute for our show in August. The NC Region show in Catawba is scheduled for April 21st. Randy Stone will be heading the Judging School for Friday the 20th. This will be the introduction of the apprentice class which means members bringing their own cars for judging. This of course will help those who seek help on correcting problems and helping with information needed. The AACA Spring National Meet will be held in New Bern in May. General Green’s show will be as always the first weekend in August. Bill Roach announced that The Liberty Chamber of Commerce will hold a car show sometime in September. This is a trophy show and is held annually. A Senior Adult Day at the Dixie Classic Fair on October 2nd will be celebrating the 125th Anniversary of the Fair. Scott Bryson handed out fliers asking for 10 outstanding cars and owners to show case their classics.

Sam Hummel has invited the club to bring out the cars for the summer theater held in downtown Greensboro at the Carolina Theater June 19th. A free movie ticket will be given to those who bring a vehicle.

Randy Stone attended the national meeting in Philadelphia and brought back a lot of interesting information. Randy discussed the Sentimental Tour (hosted by NC Region) which will take place on June 20th, 2008 in the Piedmont area. He pointed out to the club how important it was to get started on the detail plans for this important event. General Greene will support this day for the tour.

The club sent a donation in memory of Jack Reeves, a former president of General Greene, to Hospice and his wife Bobbi sent the club a very nice thank you card.

Gerald Russell informed everyone of the cruise-ins every Friday night at the Rib Shack and every first and third Saturday night at Steak and Shake on Lawndale Drive in Greensboro. General Greene celebrated their 31st Anniversary in February, 2007.
Jerry Bodden headed the way for a wonderful trip to the Jenkins Automotive Museum in North Wilkesboro, NC. Eight car clubs were present. Tar Heel Buick, Carolina Buick, General Greene, Three Rivers, Zooland, Coastal Plains, Deep River Region and Hornet’s Nest were all there to enjoy the tour. The meeting, of course, took place at breakfast at the Farmer’s Market. Forty people were present and the trip was wonderful. Mr. Jenkins showed the clubs 51 cars in mint condition. He collects mostly Buicks and Cadillac’s. His specialty is 1941 Buicks. Mr. Jenkins was a gracious host as he welcomed everyone and was patient with answering questions asked. The restoration shop was unbelievable. There are twenty-two employees that work full time. Now this is a man who takes this hobby seriously. Everyone enjoyed the trip immensely.

I enjoy all the articles sent in by the clubs. The one about the “Let it Snow” table was fun and hopefully our club can do the same next year. What a cute idea and the weather does not matter, it was the thought behind it. Thank you, Mt. Olive for a great article.

I would like to take this time to thank everyone in the NC Region Newsletter for the Honorable Mention Award and all the members of General Greene especially for Ronda Russell who helped me with the news.
