Hurricane Hannah caused us to postpone our ice cream social for
one week but it was worth the wait. What a great time our club
had at our Annual Ice Cream Social on August 28! 35 members
enjoyed homemade ice cream made with the help of a vintage ice
cream maker. We had our choice of strawberry and/or vanilla
with all the trimmings as well as other desserts. Members Allie
and Mary Moore hosted this year's social beside their beautiful
40 acre lake where a constant breeze made an otherwise steamy
evening very comfortable. Allie purchased the antique the ice
cream maker that was powered by a hit 'n miss engine especially
for the ice cream social. It was the talk of the evening. In
addition to cars, Allie is a collector of antique cannons.
During the evening, we were treated to several firings of his 19th
century Civil War brass naval cannons from across the lake. What
a treat!
On Saturday, October 4 several of our members will travel to
Jacksonville, NC for the New River Chapter Show. Our chapter
will also participate in Wilmington's Riverfest displaying our
autos on October 5 under the oaks at the foot of Market Street.
We typically have a good turn out of cars and many visitors to
come by to view them.
