Judge’s Corner

by Herb Oakes
NC Region Chief Judge

Thanks to Randy Stone and his committee for their hard work in planning our 1st centralized Annual Business Meeting. It’s been a long time in the works. Speaking for myself and others I have talked to, it was a success. The Judging School on Friday was well attended with 41 members. Of the 41 attending the school, nine were 1st timers, who attended the Apprenticeship School, so North Carolina now has nine more new judges. I will pick up the new Judges Manual at Philadelphia and send one to each of the judges who attended the school.

Fran and I will be leaving for Philadelphia on the 6th of February, which will mean that the 2008 AACA season begins. Our first National Meet will be a dual meet at Melbourne Florida on March 7th and 8th. The Grand National on Friday and the National Meet on Saturday. April 4th and 5th will be the National Meet at Charlotte -- a good place for all of the new judges to get started. In June, North Carolina Region and Alamance Region will host a National Sentimental Tour. This is for automobiles 1928 through 1958. The host hotel will be the Ramada in Burlington where we had our Annual Business Meeting. So there is plenty of action at a National level in North Carolina.

Saving the best for last is our NC Region Spring Meet on May 3rd 2008 hosted by the Triangle Chapter at Oak View Historical Park, Carya Drive, Raleigh, North Carolina. For those of you who have never attended a meet at this location, don’t miss it . . . what a wonderful place for a Spring Region Meet. Flyers are in this issue of your NC Region Newsletter. I have already received 15 registrations. Lets make this Spring Meet the biggest one yet. And again, as usual, I would like to be able to report in my next Judge’s Corner that we had an entry from every Chapter in the NC Region.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Hulon McCraw, VP of Class Judging, who attended our NC Judging School at our annual business meeting and his assistance at a National level to make it possible for us to sponsor a National Judging School. This will be a yearly event.

Thanks,

Herb
